At arth, we believe that a school is just a pile of bricks without its educators. It is mindful and intentional facilitators who breathe life into a learning space. That is why we call our educators à vie. The French word à vie means life and we sincerely believe that our educators are the lifeline of our learning environment. We also believe that life is the best teacher you can get, so that’s a little wordplay there.
How does being arthen feel?
We’ve had some amazing humans work with us during the 2 years we’ve been serving childhood in Kolkata. 80% of our present and past team members have been a part of Tier 1 Universities from India and abroad, including the likes of - Harvard University, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, IIM Bangalore, Jindal Global Law School, BITS Pilani, Bank Street College of Education, Lesley University, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Azim Premji University, Christ University, The EFL University, and FTII. Many of our teammates have, in the past, worked with National Geographic, Fulbright Scholars, Teach For India, Gandhi Fellowship, Pratham, Hindustan Unilever, Amazon Inc, and Kolkata Sanved.
From Kolkata, we’ve had graduates from Loreto College, JDBI, Shri Sikshayatan, Jadavpur University, Calcutta University and iLEAD.
At arth one of our goals with our teammates is to nurture the leader within them. We are so proud to share that all of our past teammates have gone on to pursue worthy goals in the field of education and human experience with many of them working on their own endeavours like Life Meets the Lens, Sang, Safe Space Studios, etc.
Who are we looking for?
We think anyone that’s arthen is a kind-hearted human being, curious and passionate about working with children, often a child themselves, especially when with them. We think that is the most fundamental requirement for any role at arth.
Ideally, we are looking for someone with a background in education, creative arts, technology, science, and/or social sciences. We’d love to find someone who has strong passions/hobbies themselves and wants to share them with people, be it art or tech or nature or anything else. The above tries to describe something close to what we have in mind.
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of Undergraduation in any field, preferably Education, Sciences, Media Studies, Arts, History, Sociology, IR, Languages, Psychology, Geography, Political Science, Design, Fine Arts, etc. We’d also love applications from people who have a Diploma in related creative fields.

LOCATION: The job is based out of Kolkata and is primarily an in-person classroom teaching role.
Job Description
You’ll work alongside other à vie Educators managing a group of up to 25 arthlings. Our arthlings are between the age group 18 months and 7 years. As an à vie Educator you will sometimes be the Director and sometimes be the Set Designer. Both sweet and stern, a friend who sometimes plays along and at other times is the audience. The kind that watches, claps, and at times remains silent, full of emotion, and at times applauds with enthusiasm. Your specific roles will include:
Deliver care, education, and a safe environment to arthlings in our First Step or Arth Hours Program.
Develop detailed lesson plans and instructional materials on a daily basis.
Provide individualised and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each child.
Evaluate each arthlings growth on multiple parameters as laid in the school’s philosophy.
Keep appropriate records and prepare portfolios. Record videos and take photographs of children for Documenting Learning.
Meticulously document all learning that happens in the classroom as the means for evaluation.
Identify the needs and collaborate with other à vie Educators to assess and address students’ health and learning challenges.
Communicate effectively with parents through conferences, emails, newsletters, and other means to discuss students’ progress.
Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth workshops.
Be responsible for security, care, and maintenance of the classroom equipment.
WORK HOURS: We have openings for both full-time and part-time roles. Your specific work hours will depend on your particular classroom profile. Most part-time roles involve a commitment of 4-6 hours per day.
We have a proprietary application process. To jump-start the process, we ask applicants to answer a few questions in an online Assessment. This helps speed up the process and lets us get to know you a bit better right out the door. To avoid bias, we use a custom-built Hiring Measurement Matrix to reviews candidates’ applications based on a rubric for the job requirements. To proceed to the hiring stages, candidates will typically participate in a psychometric test which will be followed by a Skill Assessment Chat, Group Discussion and Interview.
