Caterpillar Sticking
Date: 27th June, 2022, Monday
WHEN WAS IT DONE: Work Time
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Caterpillar Worksheet
Colorful circular stickers
ACTIVITY PREP:
We created small worksheets with the face of a caterpillar that kids would complete using the circular colored stickers.
INVITATION SET-UP:
To set up the invitation, the worksheets were laid out on the table and the sticker sheets were kept in bowls. The facilitator introduced the caterpillar to the children and modeled the activity to the kids by peeling off the stickers one by one and placing them one after the other to complete the caterpillar. The kids were then encouraged to choose stickers of their choice and complete the caterpillar themselves.
CHILDREN’S RESPONSE:
The children tried to follow the process of peeling off the stickers and placing them on the worksheet. Some needed help with peeling off the stickers while others went about exploring by stickering all over the worksheet which was encouraged to start with. Slowly, the facilitator modeled how they could place the stickers next to each other and most kids were happy to follow. Some kids also used felt pens to draw caterpillars themselves or trace out tiny legs of the caterpillar that they had stickered.
PRECAUTIONS:
Being careful that children did not put the worksheets, stickers or felt pens in their mouths.
SKILLS & CONCEPTS:
Cognitive Skills - Colour and shape recognition is an interesting element of this activity. This activity can also be a good way to introduce colours and shapes to toddlers.
Attention, focus and concentration - As children discover that sticking stickers is creating new and interesting patterns, they keep trying to create more new patterns and experimenting with various colours as well. This helps build and retain their attention, focus and concentration during the course of the activity.
Hand-eye coordination - In order to complete the task at hand, i.e.,pasting stickers, one would require accurate hand-eye coordination to peel off the sticker and then stamp it onto the paper.
