Activity Prep

The rath was semi-painted before the activity and a ribbon was attached to pull it

Invitation Set-Up

The rath was placed in the center area of the classroom. Trays with plates of paints, brushes and flowers were prepared. Leaves and jasmine garland were also used to decorate the rath.

Process

The rath was painted using flowers. It was then decorated with more flowers, leaves and garland. The ribbon attached to it allowed the rath to be pulled across the classroom as part of the activity.

Children’s Response

Rath decoration attracted the attention of most children as it offered options for decoration. Some children engaged in painting the rath, whilst others decorated it with flowers. 

Skills/Concepts

Fine Motors Skills and Hand-eye Coordination - Activities such as painting and rangoli making require the use of small muscles. The ability to control the movement of the hand with regards to information that the eyes collect is also enhanced. 

Gross Motor Skills - Gross motor skills involve jumping, running and other activities that require use of bigger muscles. 

Social Awareness and Skills - Involving children in celebrating festivals is a good way to introduce them to the norms of the world around them. It also sets them on a path to learn social skills that one must acquire, such as taking responsibility together, meeting new people and having compassion for others.
