In how many ways can you make this number?

Date: Mar 2, 2022; Wednesday
Facilitators: Ankur and Sohini
Participants:  Nathan, Narushie, Samaira, Aarav, Isa, Sherry, Daksh
Materials used: Number flashcards and play structure.

Setup and objective

Different number flashcards from 1-9 of five sets were placed on the floor. The objective of the game was to pick different numbers that together add up to the number given by the facilitator. For example: 11 = 9+2, 8+3, 5+5+1. There is a slight twist. You can’t pick out the numbers directly, you have to race for it. You first need to hop on the ground, climb up the slide, crawl over the bridge, climb down the stairs and again hop to the cards to pick out your answer.

How it happened

All children participated wholeheartedly and wanted to keep playing more rounds. They all came up with unique combinations and kept pushing themselves to think differently. It made them realise the different ways in which you can create one number. Their answers are below!
