Setup and Objective
The setup of this activity was simple. A big brown canvas was stuck on the floor. There were chalks of different colours kept in different plastic cups, tempera bottles filled with water and hammers, rollers, and motor pastels kept in two trays. There were also labeled plastic cups and brushes of different sizes.
The objective of this activity was for the children to exercise and strengthen their fine motor skills, engage in art and messy sensory play, and experience colour experimenting.
HOW IT HAPPENED
When the opening was over, the children had a brief conversation about the activity of the day with the facilitators, which was followed by them collecting chalks of their favorite colors in their plastic cups. They also took hammers, rollers, and motor pastels. After that, the children sat on the brown canvas which was stuck on the floor, and crushed the chalks. They seemed really engaged in crushing the chalks. When they were done with crushing the chalks, the children collected it in their plastic cups. Then they took tempera water bottles and brushes of different sizes from the facilitators to make their own colours. They added water in their plastic cups which consisted of chalk powder and mixed it nicely with their brushes. The children seemed to enjoy experimenting with different colours and making new colours of their own. They also used the new colours to paint on the brown canvas. All the children helped in the cleanup when the activity got over.
