PBL: My Emotions! Day 6
Date: 18th November 2022; Friday.

Welcome to Day 6 of ‘My Emotions’ at Arth Hours! The last episode saw the Arthlings conduct their own photography session to study expressions. In this episode, they will be joined by an expert!
PLANNING AND SETUP
The activity was divided into the following steps:
1. Learning Photography with Samir Bhaiya: Our very own Arth Hours photographer, Samir Anwer, was invited to take a session with the children. A DSLR camera and tripod were used as aids for instruction.
2. My Expression Portrait: Preparation was carried out as in Step 1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Learning Photography with Samir Bhaiya: The children gathered in the cubby area, where they were greeted by Samir Bhaiya and his camera. Here, the Arthlings were treated to a live demonstration of how a DSLR camera works. Samir Bhaiya showed them how to take a photo by half-pressing the shutter button, which made a click sound. He also used his viewfinder screen to demonstrate the zoom feature. Finally, the children observed a live view of themselves on the camera display!

My Expression Portrait: After this exciting tutorial, it was time for a portrait photography session. The children approached the camera in pairs: while one child stood behind the lens, the other posed for a picture. Continuing on the theme of facial expressions, each Arthling was asked to perform their happy, sad, angry, scared, and excited faces for the camera.

OUTCOME AND FUTURE
In this episode, the children continued their detailed study of human faces and expressions using photography. The class also incorporated several experiences relevant to the real world, which is a central focus of the PBL method. Exposing children to real technology and expert opinions is encouraged in PBL, as it helps them form a better understanding of the world around them!
