Welcome to Day 5 of our project — the last day before the Christmas Carnival! Our Arthlings have been ticking items off their lists, and are now prepared with lots of goodies to sell! Read on to know how they got busy with some Christmas cooking.
PLANNING AND SETUP
The activity was divided into the following steps:
1. Making Cake Pops: Trays were assembled with small pieces of chocolate cake, chocolate syrup, sprinkles, bowls, spoons, sealable plastic bags, labels, and aprons.
2. Deciding Pricing: Labels were designed for three different price points: 30, 40, and 50 rupees. A tray was set up to contain a sample of each of the following items: popsicle star, Santa hat, Christmas tree, greeting card, sock snowman, and cake pop.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The day began with a Christmas music circle! The children sang carols and shook sleigh bells to accompany the music.
Making Cake Pops: The children gathered around their tables for some Christmas cooking! The educators walked them through the steps of making a cake pop, and then presented the ingredients.
The children took turns and practised waiting at every step. They began by crushing pieces of chocolate cake, and adding chocolate syrup with spoons. Then it was time to get their hands dirty and mix, mix, mix! The yummy, sticky cake paste was then shaped into balls.
The Arthlings added a popsicle to each cake pop, and finished with sprinkles. Some of the little chefs just couldn’t resist the urge to eat. They snuck a little taste before the pops were sealed and taken away for freezing!
Deciding Pricing: The second activity of the day was pricing! Three labels were stuck on the floor, representing 30, 40, and 50 rupees respectively. The children listened to the instructions and then took turns! When an instructor held up a Christmas goodie, the Arthling in the front of the line ran to the price they wanted to choose! This was performed for the popsicle star, Santa hat, Christmas tree, greeting card, sock snowman, and cake pop! At the end of the exercise, the votes were counted and the prices were decided by majority.

OUTCOME AND FUTURE
Our Arthlings have finished all their preparations for the big day!
This project has been an interesting introduction to aspects of business like production and pricing. Although the Arthlings were unable to put up their cake pops for sale (the Arth Hours factory faced some hygiene issues due to the little elves coughing and sneezing), they got a taste of life in the food industry!
Join us for the final episode of this series, the Christmas Carnival itself!
