Setup and Objective

There were two tables with two educators. Each educator had a tray with them which consisted of gloves, safety goggles, plastic cups with colored vinegar, bowls with baking soda, beakers of different shapes and sizes, syringes and spoons.
The objective of this activity was for the children to observe and experiment for themselves on how a reaction takes place.

How it happened

The children came to the tables by themselves and wore their safety goggles and gloves. Initially, the educator showed them how the experiment is done while they observed. The educator had put the baking soda previously in the playdough mountain model. They poured the coloured vinegar in the mountain in front of the children. The fizz started coming out and all the children got very excited and wanted to try the experiment by themselves. So each of them were given beakers of different shapes and sizes and plastic cups with coloured vinegar. After that they put baking soda from the bowl which was kept with the educator with a spoon, one by one. They waited for everybody to finish putting baking soda. Then they slowly poured coloured vinegar in their beakers. The fizz came out and they wanted to do it again. They also transferred the liquid with syringes and droppers. All the children really enjoyed pouring vinegar and observing the fizz coming out. They named this experiment the volcano experiment.
